Charleston restaurateur, Sam Mustafa, is one of the community’s most recognizable business owners. Operating 11 bars and restaurants in the Lowcountry, Mustafa is a passionate and dedicated entrepreneur who has positively changed the Charleston restaurant scene by bringing hundreds of employable positions to the community.
Prior to moving to South Carolina, Mustafa grew up in Kuwait with five brothers. With a dream to move to America, little did Mustafa know he would soon own a multi-million dollar hospitality empire. Mustafa’s career began while studying to earn a degree in engineering from the University of Illinois. During his time at the University of Illinois, Mustafa spent his nights working multiple fast-food restaurant jobs. Mustafa quickly realized that the endless hours spent at these fast-food chains were all worth it when he had saved enough money to purchase a restaurant of his own, Sam’s Cafe.
Sam opened the doors to the tiny Carbondale Illinois eatery as his first venture and years later in 2008, Charleston Hospitality Group (CHG) was founded. Every day, Mustafa puts forth his best effort to ensure that Charleston’s visitors and residents have access to endless options for exceptional dining, unforgettable travel, and sizzling nightlife that fits their mood.
